This New Year, I made a resolution that hereafter, I will do at least one a good deed everyday. The major reason for this resolution is that I believe in the life hereafter. I also believe in the existence of Hell and Heaven and also believe that our good and bad deeds are weighed and on that basis we enter Hell or Heaven. I thought I should
make this resolution because, so many years of my life I have spent without consciously making efforts in this direction. By helping others, even in a small little way we will reap many advantages. We will get peace of mind. We will accumulate good deeds and for that we will be rewarded by God. We will get the satisfaction that we have
found one good use for the day. We will be leading a purposeful life the blessings of those who received the help will protect our family and we will not be loosing any thing by helping others. When I say 'help'. It does not mean very big help.
- I have listed out certain activities which I have performed after I
have taken the resolution.
- I helped an old couple to cross the road.
- I warned a pillion rider to take care of her flowing duppatta.
- I picked a glass piece lying in the middle of the road.
- I paid the school fees for my servant's kid who was about to be dropped from school.
- I gave a new set of dress to the daughter of a poor widow who scored high mark in her examination as an incentive
- I gave food the watch man who was suffering with fever and didn't cook for three days.
- I stayed in the hospital for few hours with a woman whose husband underwent a major operation to render moral support
- I am offering counseling to a distressed teenager.
- I am helping a poor child who can not afford tuition.
- I donated old news papers and clothes to a charity home.
- I passed the news of a relative's death to other relatives.
- I frequently call a women who lives alone to relieve her from her
loneliness
- I have prepared speeches and articles for few people who approach me
- I have often switched of lights burning in the common areas of my
apartment which will help to reduce the electricity expenditure.
- I have given proper directions to a passer by when he was struggling
to reach a place
- I celebrated New Year day silently at home and prayed for the well
being of every individual connected with me and for our nation too
- I helped my neighbor women to find the home entrepreneurs sites which
help in getting flexi time jobs and helped her to prepare her resume.
- I helped relative from the village to get the eye surgeon's
appointment in Chennai and accompanied her to the eye hospital.
The list is endless. Some days I have rendered more than one help. But I am very firm about the implementation of the resolution. So far, I have not failed in this resolution and God should help me to keep it up not only for this year but through out my life. Those who need help are plenty and those who can render it also are plenty. But we should be mentally prepared either to spend our spare money or time or energy for the sake of others who are in need, so that, at the end of a day when we go to bed we can go to sleep with peace of mind and with a
sense of fulfillment and we know God is watching our deeds. I have given publicity to my deeds done during the last few days only with the purpose making others to think on these lines. I enjoy absolute peace of mind after I have taken this resolution and started implementing it with will power because .after all this is not a difficult resolution to implement. If so many of us think on these lines the society will become better place to live in.
