MY Role Model - sleepaholic
"Which young celebrity is a role model for today's young Indian woman?"
For days together now, “young celebrity”, “role model”, and “today’s Indian woman” – these were the words that were running in mind constantly making me turn into an insomniac from a sleepaholic, put on the thinking cap forever and made me get caught by my lecturers. Thanks to them for their wonderful decision of asking me to leave the class!! Feels good when your lecturers ask you to leave the class, with attendance given to you and help you escape from their same boring lectures. Initially when I sat to pen down my thoughts about a young celebrity who can be a role model for today’s Indian woman, it was very difficult to decide on that ‘one’ person! According to me, a role model is a person from whom you can learn something either a thought, characteristic, their unique talent and so on... Anyone who influences me with a good positive attribute that I can incorporate in my life will be a role model for me. If something like this can work for me, I think this concept can work out for any other Indian woman too.
Every day you get to meet so many new faces and experience so many different situations, I’m sure there will be something or the other that can be learnt from them. Your maid, driver, office clerk, boss, friend, neighbor and the list is never ending!! It’s quite a sad position that the world recognizes and appreciates only if you have accomplished something ‘big’. Take anything from sports, media, corporate – it’s only the best who get to hear the public saying “Oh he/she is my role model. I have always wanted to be like him/her. My total inspiration!” Why is it that the world gives importance to people who have made it ‘big’?? Even a coolie, a cobbler, a public servant (ONYX personnel) has done something and accomplished in their own way. No one has time to even give a second thought to such category of people who are the real celebrities and role models!!
There are people who would argue that a coolie, a driver or anyone else are merely performing their duty, the job given to them, so what’s the big deal? But they tend to forget the fact that the so called ‘celebrities’ they consider as their role model are also performing the job assigned to them- an actor, a sportsperson, an entrepreneur etc.
No single individual becomes a celebrity or a popular known face overnight. It takes lot of effort and sincere hard work. Agreed. But why is that the attention drawn only to certain aspects and other categories are either sidelined or not given importance and recognition that should be given?? The limelight is only on certain people, certain industries, and certain field of expertise which needs to change now.
Looking up to people about whom there is no information available other than what is circulated by media, idolizing them and considering them as role models is not a healthy affair. Not denying the fact that such celebrities too have good inspirational qualities for which they can be role models too. But positive qualities from people around us will have a much better impact and can be superb role models!
