Smart Snacks to Keep you Away from Obesity
Some people have an overwhelming urge to eat when they are getting bore, anxious, or watching TV. But well-chosen snacks can help you manage your weight, hunger, health, and energy. Instead of eating only three time meal you can go for several small healthy snacks between meals that helps in weight loss by keeping your cravings for food down and preventing excessive hunger that may lead to overeating. If you are eating snacks sagely between meals, it will promote good health and add pleasure to life. You will also feel active throughout the day as you are not starving yourself. Whether you are at home or in office, healthy snacks impart important nutrients and energy to your body in each delicious bite. Here are few healthy snacks that are enough to feed you without making you obese:
- Fruits and Vegetables: Fruits are the most healthy and natural foods in existence which provide us with strong health benefits. Fruit contains a large amount of vitamins and minerals that keep us healthy. Instead of taking supplements to provide each nutrient separately, eating the whole fruit or juice is best to gain the benefits. Melons (watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew), grapefruit, berries (strawberries, raspberries and blueberries), papaya and peach are among best weight loss food.
- Whole Grains: Whole grain are better than refined grain as they are rich in fiber and complex carbohydrates. Hence, whole grain cereals make good snacks than cookies, snack cakes, and chips. Keep aside all these snacks for occasional treats.
- Crunchy Snacks: To satisfy your crunch appeal, air popped popcorn without butter, oil and salt is one of the best snacks, as popcorn is high in fiber, low in calorie and cholesterol. Puffed rice, roasted dal, rice flakes (bhelpuri), roasted channa are also best alternatives.
- Nuts: Avoid nuts that are heavily salted, sweetened, or overly processed. Toasted or roasted nuts destroys a lot of delicate nutrients (vitamins and antioxidants). If you can not digest the raw nuts then toast it in microwave that destroy less nutrients or soak and sprout them before eating.
- Dark Chocolate: People who always crave for chocolate can switch to dark chocolate that are rich in antioxidants and good for your health but have it in moderation; have two cubes per day.
- Heavy Snacks: Sometimes you can urge for heavy snacks then you can opt for baked samosa whole wheat bread pizza, whole wheat pasta, whole wheat kaathi roll, Dhokla Khandvi Idlis etc.
- Sweet: If you want to eat something sweet — whole wheat muffins, fruit chat, oat biscuits, figs fruit shakes, raisins are best alternative.
