Rise in Bullet Proof Cars in Brazil

People in Brazil are afraid of driving alone or even together at night or late in the evening, since many youth armed with guns stop them and rob them. It is not the robbery that the people are afraid of but the fact that most of them are under the influence of drugs and are rather chaotic when it comes to using their weapons. There are around 50,000 bulletproof cars in Brazil now. Since second hand bullet cars are also available, today, it is not the just the rich and the elite that are opting for the cars, but also people from the middle class. Such is the violence and on the streets.

Around 25 bulletproof cars are being produced every month in a factory and there are 45 such companies! Vehicles are stripped down and padded with protective material and reinforced glass. It costs a lot of money but vehicle owners are willing to invest that kind of money because the roads are so unsafe. What is the police force doing the world over?
