Salutation to the Sun

Yoga is one of the best forms of exercise for women. Yoga brings about harmony of the body, mind and soul. Asanas, Pranayama and Meditation or Dhyana are the main aspects of Yoga. Yoga relaxes the body and brings about equanimity within.

The Suryanamaskar sequences form part of the exercises that help re-energise the body. For those who find it difficult to stretch in the beginning, the sequences can be modified with the help of a teacher.

These steps are simple. In the beginning, the individual must do the moves slowly, but with continuous practice, the speed can be increased.

In fact, the sequence of the Suryanamaskar is so perfect and easy to follow that twelve rounds can be done in three minutes. These exercises tone every part of the body. Suryanamaskar helps to build health and flexibility. It refreshes the skin and stimulates the activity of the thyroid and endocrine glands. For women, especially, Suryanamaskar helps improve menstrual irregularity and tones the uterus.

The sequences can be done indoors or outdoors, ideally facing the East. Pregnant women are advised not to do the sun salutations or Suryanamaskar in the first trimester. They can, however, do them in the second trimester up to the 5th month only. Let us benefit from Suryanamaskar, which ideally should be performed in the morning.
